When it comes to weight limits for skips, we consider that each cubic yard can hold approximately one tonne of waste. For example, a 3-yard skip can accommodate about 3 tonnes, while a 4-yard skip can hold around 4 tonnes, and so forth. Although you can fill smaller and medium-sized skips (ranging from 2 to 8 yards) to their full capacity with heavy items like rubble and soil, it’s advisable to mix lighter and heavier waste in larger skips due to the weight restrictions of the loading truck.

If you need to obtain a skip permit for placing your skip on council property, please adhere to the following guidelines:

1. The skip must not block the road.
2. It should be painted in a manner that makes it easily visible to passing traffic.
3. Ensure the skip has proper road markings and adequate lighting; neglecting this may lead to substantial fines.
4. The skip must be removed before or as the permit expires.
5. The dimensions of the skip must not exceed 5 meters (16.4 feet) in length and 2 meters (6.5 feet) in width.
6. All waste inside the skip must be disposed of properly, ensuring that nothing spills onto the road or overhangs it.
